Smart Flow® WP150 HV

The Smart Flow® WP150 HV is a high voltage, high performance, long life, severe duty electric water pump used in cooling systems in extreme environments. It can be used in off road applications, power generation, and large vehicle applications including fuel cell, diesel, electric, and other alternative fuel applications. These pumps are designed to run at a voltage range of 500 – 850V with up to 3kw of power depending on application specifications. Utilizing Smart Flow® technology, the new HV water pumps are CAN controlled to provide variable speed for precise control as well as full diagnostic capabilities.

Product Features

  • Improved Architecture

High voltage components can create space in several ways, but the most notable is the elimination of DC-to-DC converters. Due to its power and heat output, a converter dedicated to the cooling system in-turn needs its own cooling system. Removing that converter not only eliminates its own weight and added wiring complexity, but it also removes the additional cooling system.

  • Simplified Circuits

Even wiring is simplified with HV components. The high voltage WP150 pulls less current which allows for thinner wiring. This provides the ability to to bundle multiple components together onto one connector. Low-voltage components require larger wiring, in-turn requiring a separate connector for every pump and component.

  • Brushless Motor

Brushless, permanent magnet motors are combined with EMP designed motor control electronics to provide a high efficiency, long life pump. Brushless motors have no contacting parts to wear and reduce life. Features include locked rotor protection, over temperature protection, and over current protection.

  • Advanced Diagnostics

Intelligent diagnostics help the user understand how the pump and the entire system is operating. The diagnostics can be communicated through SAE J1939 CAN for real time analysis, or diagnostic data can be downloaded using EMPowerConnect service tool and sent to EMP for analysis. This is especially useful for troubleshooting or system development, and dry run detection.

  • Full Variable Speed Control

Using SAE J1939-15 CAN, pumps can be operated anywhere between the pre-configured minimum and maximum speeds. This allows the user to optimize speed to minimize power consumption or change speed to optimize the performance of the overall system. It can also operate as a single speed ON/OFF pump that delivers continuous output set by the customer requirements.

  • Sealed and Fully Submersible

EMP pumps are sealed and fully submersible for long life operation when exposed to the elements. Pumps are validated to withstand submersion and direct pressure wash.

  • High Efficiency, Compact, Quiet

The motor, electronics, and fluid design have been optimized for high efficiency. The end result is the highest possible flow and pressure for a given amount of input power. The design is also packaged to have as small a footprint as possible for the given pump performance and minimize sound output.

  • Multiple Protections

The electronics are designed to be able to handle all situations that can occur on the vehicle including voltage spikes, shorting of wires together, reversing battery leads and electro-static discharges.
