Concentric Pumps Limited has completed the installation of pressure pulsation testing facilities in the first of its manufacturing cells.
The new equipment enables Concentric to screen all pumps emerging from the cell in preparation for cold engine testing at the end of the customer's line, when they have been assembled into the complete engine. This facility is becoming increasingly desirable, as more engine manufacturers adopt cold testing.
The test rig incorporates a highly responsive silicone diaphragm pressure transducer which measures pulsing levels within each pump. The results are stored in an electronic database, providing full traceability of the performance of all finished product, together with the ability to correlate and analyse data across a large number of pumps.
Serialised pumps are supplied to customers who use the cold test to diagnose missed operations, faulty components or assembly. It also monitors pressure levels and flows at several locations within the engine's lubrication system. Variations from pre-set norms help to identify the nature and location of any fault.

This is an important quality assurance tool and we believe that all major engine manufacturers will eventually demand sophisticated in-line screening of this kind."
